FIVE MORE MINUTES
Some mornings begin in pieces
The alarm went off.
It was time.
Her will resisted.
One hand found the snooze button.
The other pulled the comforter over her head.
Five minutes later,
it began again.
Button.
Covers.
Silence.
Again.
And again.
No thought.
Just movement.
And then,
as the rhythm slowed,
she threw the covers back,
stood,
looked at the light
spilling through the window,
and paused.
