Mercy was never the assignment.

She sat above the clouds and watched.

She nudged her awake
Just before the dog crossed.

Made her turn right
the moment before the bus would have hit.

Removed lunch from her schedule
to avoid the shooter.

Made her father sick
so she would move back home.

Placed the bicycle in her path,
delaying her travels
just long enough to meet the boy.

Some called her a guardian angel.

She never cared for the term.

Slightly amused
that these two-legged creatures,
still believed they were being protected.
mistaking intervention for mercy.

She guarded the cycle.
